Walk 5/30 is a Foundation that provides support for individuals and organizations affected by cancer, and mental and/or health challenges; to be inspired by the benefits of walking and awareness of daily exercise.
As we approach Breast Cancer Awareness month we highlight, Damaris “DeeDee” Broussard-Purnell. Damaris was a devoted Wife, exceptional Mother, Daughter, Aunty, and "Best Friend" to many. Demaris’s heart was in helping others, especially children. She had a special place in her heart for caring for children so much so that she opened her own daycare and took all children in as her nieces and nephews. She had a special connection with all people, those she may have met at the grocery store, at church, or anyone she may have crossed paths with. In 2014 Demaris was diagnosed with breast cancer, though it was devastating to the family, everyone fought with her hard and strong. Through the diagnosis, sickness, and treatments, the outcome was successful! During 2020 the world felt the affects of Covid-19. During this time as we remember, the world was limited in services and care. Due to those limitations Demaris was not able to get her yearly mammogram. As Covid-19 settled down, she was able to follow up with her appointments and at that point she learned that the cancer had returned and spread this time. The family gathered together once again, praying, giving strength to each other and her; to fight as the family had fought before. Although, this time there was a different outcome. She left with everyone, her caring abilities, reminding each person she came in contact with; to love one another, support one another and be your best self until the end!

October 6, 2024, TEAM "DeeDee's Breast Frendz 4Ever" for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will walk in honor of Demaris Broussard-Purnell.

Walk 5/30 started after watching a YouTube video with George Halvorson, the Chairman and CEO of Kaiser, speaking on the benefits of walking. After discussing thoughts on the video the information summed up to one easy slogan, Walk 5/30! In its simplicity, to maintain a healthy mind and body we need to walk at least five times a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each walk. Walking is one of the easiest exercises that one can do, you can go at your own pace and speed. No equipment is needed, just you and any landscape. Walk 5/30’s quest is to encourage individuals, and organizations in knowing that with these simple words of encouragement, Walk 5/30, we can walk towards our health and fitness goals with an effortless start. Hear the words, see the path and make the moves!
Walk 5/30 is a start to all of our fitness and life health goals, by gaining activeness and fitness awareness on your life's journey to health and wellness.
Walk 5/30 is an organization that is here to keep you motivated and supported, by keeping you up to date with a cause that is near to all humankind, our own personal health and wellness. Walk 5/30 donates a nominal amount of each dollar to charities, in hopes of keeping the MOVEment continuous to reach around the world. Walk 5/30 is here for you!
